I have been doing a research for a niche blogging topic for my million
dollar blog project and have spent hours doing so. There’s lot going on in MDBP community. Many bloggers are fully ready and equipped with their blog topic for the niche markets. To be honest I feel like I am falling little behind. I have registered but haven’t announced my niche blogging topic. I feel things needs to be done in orderly manner and deciding on the blogging topic is the curtail part as it plays key role in the entire string of my million dollar blog project.
As I have already said in previous post that I am not much worried about making $1,000,000 collectively, what is worrying me more is to make that sum independently by one blog. I am sure many committed $1MBP bloggers feeling the same pressure, if not it is going to be a Million Dollar Blog Failure.
iDoubt
Without a doubt the topic for the niche market I want to blog about is the key to success or failure. Firstly the niche blogging topic has to interest me to keep going for longer period; secondly there should be the niche market that is worth more than million dollars. Having said this, I’ve to think will all the niche markets that I have passion, love or interest has the potential of making million dollars? There I doubt.
I may perhaps have many great topics to blog about but I am not convinced enough that all of my blogging topic could make a million dollar blog. With heavy research on the niche market, to find out whether all niche blogging topics could make million dollars in 10 years period? I couldn’t support with enough data here so I should say yes instead no. There are many reasons why I do not feel confident with my entire niche blogging topic. Three to mention:-
- The idea itself is outdated or outdating. : Catching the trends is all it matters, a blog topic that is declining if demand would be lot harder, many time may not make million dollars.
- There is no interest apart me: The chosen niche market does not have enough traffic. I must be crazy.
- Commerciality: The niche market is not or less commercially viable blog business.
With all the reasons provided, it is going to be scratch sourcing information to be gathered what niche market I should be choosing to blog about. There’s nothing wrong choosing small-micro niche market to blog but keeping in mind with this huge commitment to make million dollars, I guess I should go with highly profitable and on demand niche market. Also it is understandable that quickness and easiness to make million dollars online depends all upon the chosen niche market.
This doubt has leaded me to do more research, and has gave me unique findings on how to choose the right niche market that I am going to share with you today.
In most cases, the articles on how to choose the niche markets blogging topic begins with ask yourself few questions to find your interest, then look into Global search volume and then find the profitable keyword terms that fits interest and search volume.
It works that way, but my findings on many article post that I have read, concludes that there is some curtail research part missing that many has not stated how to analyze the Google results and the importance of combining results from search volume to profitability and to market trends.. Let’s look on to how I’ve done my niche market research starting with ipSWOT, Google KeyWord, Google Adword and Google Insight Tools.
The Niche Market Research: Personal Analysis
Starting a new blog is an exciting stuff. But sadly thousands of people do not succeed on what they initially thought blogging will do. Many bloggers do not continue due to decreasing personal interest on blogging. Many others quits because not succeeding to make money.
There could be a mixture of reasons why blog fails but one sure way that leads to blogging failure is not having a research and analyzing oneself. People should not underestimate the power of personal analysis because it is something that would help you in real terms.
I believe personal analysis should take place just after you think you want to start a blog, before deciding on a topic for the niche market.
Depending upon person to person we all have something different within our DNA. We are unique to each other and that’s the fact. There’s no doubt that some of your strengths could be a serious weakness of mine. And sometime we share similar interests and passion.
Before jumping to find out interest and passion, I’d ask myself few questions basically to find out different commitments and write down my needs and wants in my life. This step is very important to analyze because I have other commitments in my life that need to be considered, it could be anything like family, friends, travel, jobs etc. Also outlining needs and wants in a life would give me an opportunity to prioritize and work on it.

Doing this research has helped me find out arrays of positive and negative sides of my current situation. Equipped with results, now I am able to outline the best possible way to achieve my needs and wants considering my commitments. I prepared 5 key niche market blogging topics from the ipSWOT analysis report.
I can start blogging about any of those 5 topics as I have some types of understanding and knowledge; most importantly I have passion, creativity, commitment and determination:). However to make a million dollars blog, I will have to choose the right one that is commercially viable that is easy to monetize and also needs to have longevity demand factor, because million dollars could not be earned in couple of months (in my new niche blog case). My target is set for max 10 years and definitely I’d have to choose the niche market that is not going to disappear in couple of months.
As every-other bloggers, my niche blogging topic keyword is based on using Google’s products. I did used Market Samurai (no affiliate link) but I think Google’s free service works well in terms of keyword research. Also I wouldn’t suggest new bloggers to spend more than for a Domain Name and Hosting.
But before spending on domain and hosting, let’s look on to the major part of how to choose the niche blogging topic that is profitable and has longevity factor. As I said I am using simple Google Tools for the Niche market research but the process here for you to take away is how to link between the researches findings for the optimal niche blogging topic.
Know what’s on Demand: Trends Analysis
Google Keyword Tool: The Niche Market Research
Google keyword is one of the useful tool that is simple to use and very effective. I use this tool for various research purposes but for this post let’s just look on to the global search volume. Just head-on to Google keyword tool page and use the key phrase that you have already generated with ipSWOT analysis.
Let’s say one of your interest is in “banking” and “finance” , using keyword tool generate the global search volume, it’s like this at this point:-

Here you’d clearly see on the middle column that banking has less competition than finance keyword plus banking has 1,510,000 more global searches than finance. However, when deciding a futuristic profitable topic to blog about, Google Keyword tool just might not be enough.
I would reference this result and compare it to another service by Google that is Google Insight. It is very effective tool thanks to Google. Again I use this tool for various researches but I am going to show how this tool could help any bloggers to choose the futuristic blogging topic.
Google Insight: Niche Trends Research
Catching the right trend is all it matters if you really want to make real money on any sector. But, you’d not want to catch the slowing trends that are going to depart very soon. Google Insight helps you to do exactly that.
Let’s look on how this tool is very effective.
Let’s say one of your key phrases from the ipSWOT analysis is that you have interest in computers and laptops. You did research on Google Keyword and it shows that computers have more 28,900,000 Global search volumes than laptops.
Now let’s run the report from Google insight with the same keyword. The idea here is to see the trends how it was and it is trending.
It clearly shows that the popularity of “computers” is decreasing over the period. Looking with this result it is better to blog about laptops than to computers. By no explanation I could tell you, do no blog about “computers”, this thought here is to catch the trend that is growing not decreasing. You could go and check “desktop” vs “laptop” insight trends.
By now you should have your topics list that interest you and is not going to slow down in global search trends. There is still one key research that needs to done just before wrapping up the concept of choosing the futuristic profitable blogging topic.
Higher search volume trends for a keyword don’t always means a best profitable keyword and also it doesn’t guarantee that the topic is going to last forever or at least until it make a million dollar. This is where you’d need to go one extra step further before deciding long-lasting profitable topic. Getting the right balance between trends and profit is the key to success if you want to create a niche site that makes money for longer time.
Google Ad-words: Ultimate Niche Market Research Tool
Yes the final research is to determine if the topic keywords or key phrases you chose are profitable. A Google Ad word is the best place to start with. The tool is absolutely free to use and is designed for business to plan for keywords for their advertisement campaigns. However, for our interest we will be looking just form opposite angle that is to understand how much business spends for a keyword or key phrase.
As I said that all trends doesn’t last for long, especially in the business environment. A reason to that could be is consumers are interested in another product. The factors like demands and trends in the market plays the curtail role when it comes to business spending, and that’s where the money is. And of course healthy businesses are catching the trends and others are falling apart all together. Not to forget bloggers has to depend on that business in order to make money, and you’d not want to miss out, apart if you have a plan to create and sell own product.
The reason why I emphasis so much on catching the right trend is not just because that’s fashionable, it’s what businesses and consumers are interested in. Remember, as far as I am concerned the plan here is to choose a blogging topic with a massive demand, definitely massive demand does means massive competition. Competing with that mass is certainly a challenging task but think there are many ways to get things done like hiring, outsourcing and stuffs which I am not going to go further here, but the outcome is rewarding.
However, there’s is no hard and fast rule, you could certainly start with a small niche site and build it up from there, and you could use the same principle. If you are to create a blog for a small niche you’d want to go for 2, 3 or more long tailed key phrases below to find smaller niche. For example:- instead of “Design”, you’d go for “Blog Design” or “Interior Design”. Even further below like “Blog Logo Design” or “Baby interior Design” you could go deeper and deeper to find a perfect micro niche that suits you and importantly fits your interest and passion. But I doubt if all the niche market makes to a million dollars blog. However, business do reach micro niche blogs to tap their potential clients.
Having said all this, whatever your topic is going to be, it ought to be researched thoroughly. Many bloggers do use keyword tool and start blogging just after seeing the Global Monthly Searches and later thinks why they are not making money. Some may do all the researches I have told here but do not know what to look for. For example let’s look on to the data on Ad word generated for “computer” and “laptop”.
If you’ve been following you should clearly understand why not to invest on blogging about computer. I know computer is not going to disappear overnight but if you have to choose a blogging topic between your personal interest “computer “or “laptop” it is definitely ideal to go with “laptop” because with computer even if there is more global monthly searches, business aren’t spending more on advertisement for computers. But the deciding factor is the Insight Trends result; here you can clearly see how the trend is decreasing for computers.
There could be many reasons why a particular keyword trend is decreasing; one to mention is that the consumers has growing interest in another product in this case could it be this?
The Niche Market: Research, Research & Research

So far I have covered personal analysis and done the keyword research for the niche market. On examples I have used broader terms like banking, finance, computers and laptops. The reason I have used these terms is to find out the demands for the macro niches, however I have chosen the niche market based on macro niche rather than long tail keywords micro niche. I prefer this way as I could target the micro niche within that particular macro niche, on posts/pages keywords if needed sub-domains. I can mind-map and keep my topic more open.
As I said the niche market research is the key to success, here are few post that you might want to read on how to choose the niche blogging topics or similar level:-
